"I never stated otherwise."
It had most certainly sounded like he had! His tone had changed, becoming harder, sterner. But that didn't change the fact that he had sent a message he seemingly hadn't meant to. Misunderstandings were bound to happen though, seeing how they didn't even know each other like that. And he wasn't exactly Rico Suav'e or Mr. Smooth all the time from what she had just found out.
"I was talking about starting a new life, so to speak. Which is what you'll effectively be doing, if you stay here. The ways we help people might not be the same way you did it, but they're just as effective."
"So, do you always get all cute and serious when there's a misunderstanding of intentions, Shades?" She teased a little, giving a wink and a smirk.
It might not have been the time, place, or person but it would be amusing to see how he might react. It would help her guage what kind of person he was. How short his fuse was, and so on too.
Tessa went back to her relaxed self, looking around the room to take in more of the details before her eyes went back to him and she gave another smirk.

"So, do you always get all cute and serious when there's a misunderstanding of intentions, Shades?"
Cute? He honestly couldn't remember ever being called that. By anyone. Even Jean never really used it as a word. He wondered if she was teasing him, trying to throw him off guard. He supposed it was possible, though to assume a negative straight away wasn't really fair on her. He thought about it far too much, though when you had so few relationships as he'd had, it came naturally if a woman showed him any sort of positive attention.
Serious? He was always serious. The Professor had given him so much responsibility that he couldn't really do otherwise. He had always been that way: People thinking that the uptight team leader and teacher was exactly how he was, rather than a façade he put on for the people around him. Sometimes it was hard to tell the difference, even for Scott, but right now, he was feeling more like someone that wished he was better at relating to people.
His actual response to her, when it came, was a raising of his brow line and a slight fidget as he didn't know how to really react otherwise. Even when he spoke, it was full of uncertainty.
"I wouldn't know; I don't usually speak to people in this kind of situation." He replied a little awkwardly.

His brow rose and he began to fidgit. This only encouraged her as she found out what one of her sources of entertainment while in Xaiver's Institute was going to be. It wasn't that she was him as prey. She just saw him as prey-ish. All kidding aside though, she found his reaction genuinely cute. He must not get much flirting aimed at him. Well, she guessed that him being so serious might throw some girls off.
"I wouldn't know; I don't usually speak to people in this kind of situation."
"What, you don't usually speak to pretty redhead sirens, or you don't usually hold conversations in a woman who thinks you're being cute's room all alone-like?" She half teased half flirted.
Was she being mean? Nah. Nothing wrong with playing around a little, especially since she didn't mean any harm. A little flirting never killed anyone.

"What, you don't usually speak to pretty redhead sirens, or you don't usually hold conversations in a woman who thinks you're being cute's room all alone-like?"
Well, she was forward. More forward than most women were around Scott, though in all honesty that wasn't saying much. He again thought to himself about whether she was doing this just to mess with him, as the way she seemed now could have been interpreted either way. He just had to tread softly for now, but if he treated this like a game of strategy and tactics, then maybe he could keep up with her.
"I'm not generally someone that people refer to as being "cute". They usually learn to hate me after arriving here, and I'm sure you won't be any different. Not that I don't have faith in you or your abilities; I just didn't get my reputation for being the the way I am from nothing. You might not think I'm so cute after you spend an hour in the Danger Room with me." Scott finally answered, thinking about it.

"Aw, you might come off as being a bit of a tight-ass, but I'm sure not everyone hates you. And how can't you be referred to as cute, with how your jaw twitches that certain way and your shoulders go all square-like?" She commented, leaning forward a little as she spoke.
"And that Danger Room thing sounds interesting." She added.
She had no idea what a Danger Room was, but it sounded exciting. As far as the flirting she was doing, she was doing it partly for fun, partly because she could see how he was cute, and partly because people tended to worry less about flirts. Underestimate them, think of them not as being an actual threat. Especially when the flirts were spunky redheads with a cute face and decent body.

Nice to know her opinion of him was so high. Not that he hadn't been called similar things before, but it usually wasn't from a woman that would turn around and flirt with him at the same time. What kind of game was she playing with him? They'd already cleared up the nonsense over their misunderstanding, so this couldn't be about? Did she actually, pray tell, find him attractive?
He had no idea. A part of him that had noticed her, though, kind of hoped she did.
"And that Danger Room thing sounds interesting."
Scott gave a slight shrug.
"It's where you'd be doing most of your training here at the mansion. I'll have to show it to you sometime... Though hopefully not when you're leading me on with your ultimately going nowhere flirting."

She stayed leaning forward some even while he shrugged and began on his answer to her gentle teasing and less than gentle flirting. Hey, flirting wasn't a crime. And she wanted him to think of her as little of an actual threat as possible.
"It's where you'd be doing most of your training here at the mansion. I'll have to show it to you sometime... Though hopefully not when you're leading me on with your ultimately going nowhere flirting."
"Oh you... I like you." She said with a small playful laugh and a light hand on his shoulder.
"But, labeling this as me leading you on with going nowhere flirting? Shame. You're trying to make a grown woman pout." She commented, giving him a light tap with her palm on his shoulder before stepping back and giving him his space.
"You know you like the attention, and you know you think I'm cute already." She commented with a smirk and a wink.
"Never think it's going nowhere, it's so much less fun that way and makes more of a chance of it never happening. It's in the unwritten book of Flirting 101."
There were other times she flirted. Fans liked it, it made them feel special and wanted. Which meant that Tessa had it pretty down packed.

"Oh you... I like you."
She put her hand on his shoulder, and though under any other circumstance (or even a similar one) he might have flinched, this time he managed to control himself, almost not reacting at all. He wasn't the kind of person who engaged in much physical contact, which was probably a by-product of his time in the orphanage. He hadn't really had a nurturing environment.
"But, labeling this as me leading you on with going nowhere flirting? Shame. You're trying to make a grown woman pout."
She tapped him on the shoulder, and he rose a brow. She really wasn't going out of her way to put him at ease, was she. Shame.
"You know you like the attention, and you know you think I'm cute already."
Surprisingly, he didn't (like the attention), because Scott wasn't someone that had learned to take people at face value. He believed in goodness in general, but when it came to him personally, it wasn't the same.
"Never think it's going nowhere, it's so much less fun that way and makes more of a chance of it never happening. It's in the unwritten book of Flirting 101."
And it also meant that if it didn't happen, the crushing weight of rejection would remind him just how alone he was in the world. He didn't mean playing, he didn't mind flirting, but he was getting too old and too busy to really be able for this.
"Well if it's going to happen, you don't expect me to make it easy for you, do you?" He asked a little cheekily, wondering if he would at least find common ground with her.

She almost sensed that stick again. The one that haunted his ass so much more often than the type of people she was used to dealing with. It didn't mean she was going to stop playing around, just that she might find someone more sporting to do it with.
"Well if it's going to happen, you don't expect me to make it easy for you, do you?"
She grinned a bit even as she wondered if it was a front he was using to try to that impressing her thing that some people did.
"Maybe a little easy." She teased back.
The truth was, as long as he didn't try to get her to be all serious about the flirting and such, she'd keep having fun. It wasn't like she was actually out for a relationship or anything. Oh no, not at all. She'd just gotten there. That, and she was kind of in a tail-end of a break up currently so she needed a bit of me time.

"Maybe a little easy."
She seemed interested, didn't she? Even if it was a bit of fun that the both of them could enjoy, Scott could go for that. He just didn't know the difference between what was flirting, and what was just kidding around. Scott hadn't had much experience with either of them, and while he wanted to believe that she wouldn't fuck him over, he knew that not everyone would be that compassionate.
Maybe she would be...
"I guess that depends on what you're after." He said, keeping it vague enough, and his expression wily enough to give her the impression that he wasn't asking for her hand in marriage or anything like that.
He was new to all this, and he hoped that he hadn't botched it.

Its a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do.Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you!Is it that look in your eyes or is it the dancing juice?Who cares baby, I think I wanna marry you!-==≡≡==-----===≡=≡===-----===≡=≡===-----==≡≡==- There was a new student coming in and Maya wanted to officially greet her to the school, but before she could get the chance, her little sister decided to pounce her with a surprise. The young eighteen year old girl was having some boy issues and, like the good sister she is, Maya stayed close to listen to all of April's personal problems and did her very best to help. Yet, it was rather hard to follow since April was talking a million miles an hour and that forced Maya to say what several times. It was a difficult task that Maya wasn't quite sure what to even do with as she listened to everything her sister had to say. The mere attempt to process it seemed rather confusing for the older woman who just didn't know why teens had so much drama with their relationships. Finally April began to calm down and soon was bouncing off like nothing was bothering her. Shaking her head slowly, Maya couldn't understand a single thing that her little sister went through. Pushing that aside, for now, Maya pushed out of her bedroom and made her way towards the entrance, but seeing it was void of the new student, she figured she would head up to the bedrooms to search for the new comer.
It didn't take long to find the new face as she popped her head in to see both Tessa and Scott talking. A brow slowly perked as she heard Scott's last line and instantly Maya's power kicked into play as the events happening replied before her, and she gave a look of disgust. Clearing her throat, she dragged herself through the entrance of the room and stared at Scott with her hazel eyes, "So, greeting the new comer with some," she paused a moment to give some emphasis on her words, "flirting? I wonder what Jean would have to say about that. After all, what you seem to be after is a quick kick to the dick," she stated boldly. Maya wasn't really afraid of anything after having done her job for several years as a detective, she kind of saw it all and was still seeing more. Having a gun pointed at you is no different than having an unstable mutant get ready to blast you away with their ability. All Maya had to do was be quicker than them, and she normally was.
Like always, Maya's pistol was at her hip resting over her blue jeans and her black t-shirt that she wore. Her auburn locks were pulled back into two little pig tails and her heart shaped rainbow tattoo showed clearly upon her chest. Beyond that, she simply had her nose ring in her left nostril and her lips glistening pink. It was nothing out of the ordinary for her, even her feet being bare of socks or shoes. "So, mind telling me what is really happening here or are you gonna go take a cold shower?" she stated as her left hand came to rest upon her pistol out of habit. She didn't mean to take a threatening posture, it was just something she was use to doing when questioning people that were potentially dangerous. It made sure she was ready, and it has become instinct to her since protecting herself will inevitably protect her sister.

Scott's ears perked up when he heard someone enter the room, and turned his head just enough to see Maya enter. He guessed that she wanted to welcome the new arrival to the school, but the way she looked at him told him that something was seriously wrong. That, or she'd woken up on the wrong side of the bed, and was going to punish him for it.
"So, greeting the new comer with some, flirting? I wonder what Jean would have to say about that. After all, what you seem to be after is a quick kick to the dick."
Scott's brow rose. Well, wasn't she the charmer? He was amazed that the news about his and Jean's breakup hadn't spread through the mansion by now, but he supposed that they had tried so hard to keep it a secret that it might not have filtered down to the other residents just yet.
"So, mind telling me what is really happening here or are you gonna go take a cold shower?"
"Well, first of all I think you should apologise, at the very least for assuming things that aren't true. What happens, or happened, between Jean and myself, isn't the business of anyone in this house but Jean and I. If you must know, though, we're not together anymore." Scott said, trying to keep his tone measured.

"I guess that depends on what you're after."
That could be taken so many ways, fun or a little too much serious. At the moment, she didn't know him that well and he seemed to be shifting from one mode to another so quickly that she had trouble deciding on how to play this game. He didn't seem to be trying to lock her into a deep down and gritty relationship with locks and keys, but the moment was a little iffy. Tess had just been about to reply when someone else came into the scene.
"So, greeting the new comer with some... flirting? I wonder what Jean would have to say about that. After all, what you seem to be after is a quick kick to the dick,"
Wow. Well, that was a change in pace. So Shades had a girlfriend or interest? Or was he a playa playa? She gave a look as if asking the background to this.
"So, mind telling me what is really happening here or are you gonna go take a cold shower?"
Was she going to have to squeak out a few notes to bring a little calm here, she wondered as the woman's hand went to a pistol. Just what kind of place had she gotten herself into? For now, she sealed her lips and just watched the "action" unfolding.
"Well, first of all I think you should apologise, at the very least for assuming things that aren't true. What happens, or happened, between Jean and myself, isn't the business of anyone in this house but Jean and I. If you must know, though, we're not together anymore."
So recently broke up and on the rebound man? Might explain why he kept changing from one mode to another, actually.

Its a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do.Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you!Is it that look in your eyes or is it the dancing juice?Who cares baby, I think I wanna marry you!-==≡≡==-----===≡=≡===-----===≡=≡===-----==≡≡==- Listening to Scott talk about how he and Jean were no longer together and claiming it was none of Maya's business seemed to be quite the contradiction. After all, if it wasn't any of her business, then Scott wouldn't have to try and justify anything and just say that he and Jean were done, so it didn't matter. How hard was that to do? Instead, he over reacts and starts throwing a bit of a hissy fit. Rolling her eyes, Maya just leaned her back against the door frame she was standing close to. Studying Scott a bit more now, she took in his posture and mood with a careful eye before she noticed Tessa's uncomfortable posture. This seemed to be a very interesting event, and it didn't help that Scott was being rather moody about everything. So, Maya just shook her head slowly before letting her eyes fall back upon Scott as she spoke, "You two are always so open when you are together and yet you don't share a word when you break up? And, as for the apology, you won't get one. I was a detective and what I see is what I use to assume what is going on. So, if you don't want people assuming improperly, perhaps you should make it clear what your intentions are rather than jumping back and forth over a line," she stated bluntly.
Maya didn't really believe in doing things the round about way, she preferred being straight forward and honest with everything she said, even if it would be painful for the other person to hear. Yet, Scott, at least for the moment, seemed to not know a single thing about what he actually wanted and his signals sent were very mixed. Almost like having thousands of cords put into one box and finally taking them out, unsure which wire is which anymore. That was Scott at the moment, perhaps his way of mourning the loss of Jean as a girlfriend? It was hard to tell right now. Ignoring Scott, however, Maya turned her attention to Tessa and let her pink lips give a gentle smile, "And I am Maya, by the way. Some people around here call me Syco, but you can call me either if you want," she informed the new student, "Has Scott given you the grand tour yet or has he been beating around that bush too?" she queried. Since Tessa was knew, Maya wanted to make sure that the girl knew where she was going in the school and not be completely lost. On top of that, it wouldn't be a bad thing to get to know her a bit more since she will be staying here after all. And for Maya, knowing who was in the school was something she was sort of obsessed with doing. One could say it was a motherly instinct to protect her sister. Maya would just claim it was being cautious.

"Well, I just got here about ten minutes ago, and finished getting unpacked during the conversation Shades and I were having. Well, finished unpacking until the rest of my stuff gets here." She commented when the attention was slipped back in her direction.
"I'm Tessa Brands, you might or might not have heard me on the radio."
Since apparently people around here didn't tune into the kinds of stations she'd be found on possibly. Or watch much television that had commercials about her tours on it... or well, hear much about her in general. Well, she guessed it was better than being crowded in due to her previous profession.
"As far as the tour, we haven't gotten around to that yet. I'm guessing he was planning on it after we finished with our playful flirting. Either that or I'd be getting to have the fun of exploration while carrying around a ball of yarn." She said, trying to keep the moment light.
Lighter than it had been a moment ago. Yeesh. The tension could be cut with a knife.
