Family:
Hanna Kane (mother), Harold Kane (father), Michael Kane (older brother)General Appearance:
Melita has a mixture of Caucasian and Malaysian facial features. Almond shaped eyes with light tan skin. Standing at 5'3", she has a slim build and short light brown hair. Due to her mutation, Melita has small specks of gold that resemble scales on high on her cheek bones and her eyes often glow a soft to violent orange. She opts to wear simple tank tops and black jeans, but has the tendency to burn through her clothing.Personality:
Melita is on the extreme opposites of the spectrum. She is egotistical, cocky, and sarcastic. She shows fierce independence and trusts very few people. However, due to her mutation, Melita has a growing fear of her powers and her ability to control them. As a result, Melita needs to have control in her life and that means controlling every aspect of her life. She has very few friends for fear they will perish if she loses control of her powers. She dreams for a future where she will be accepted and her abilities will be under control. Melita is extremely ambitious, persistent and determined which is shown through a power hungry, controlling attitude. She likes to be aware of a situation and always know what's going on, figuring this out with her probing mind, on the other hand, she is interested in the occult, the paranormal, conspiracy theories and other types of similar unknown mysteries. She is a very deep, intense person where there is always more then meets the eye. She presents a cool, detached and unemotional air to the world yet lying underneath is tremendous power, extreme strength, intense passion and a strong will and a persistent drive.Abilities:
Pyrokinesis: Melita has the ability to create and control various temperatures of fire. She creates fire being able to vibrate air molecules around her to such an intensity that starts combustion and creates flame. She can create blasts of intense flame, either in controlled bursts or as an omni-directional wave powerful enough to incinerate large trees and melt almost an metal in mere seconds.History:
In addition to her mutation, Melita apparently has immunity from her flames as she can completely engulf herself in fire without damage to herself.
Also, she has a physical mutation in the form of golden scales on high on her cheekbones. Whenever she loses control of her abilities, the scales appear to glow brighter and her body "explodes" into flames with it being the source of the explosion.
Despite having quite a powerful ability, her mutation is linked directly to her emotive state. Whenever she becomes increasingly upset she has a more difficult time controlling her powers and often creates a fire burst that can incinerate a building if she is not "cooled down" in time.
As a result of her powers, Melita is extremely sensitive to cold and water. In order to control herself she often sleeps in chilling temperatures.
Melita Kane was born to an average, middle class family in San Francisco, California. Her mother was an immigrant from Malaysia and worked as a genetic engineer for a large corporation. Her father worked as a high school science teacher and was from Idaho. Much of Melita's childhood was uneventful. She was often teased by her older brother, had very close friends, and enjoyed listening to the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync.Other:
It wasn't until her thirteenth birthday did she experience something a typical budding young woman should. She had been having extremely dry skin on her face, notably her cheeks, and had been on several emergency room trips due to sky rocketing temperatures that made her feel dizzy. While showering, Melita scratched some of what she thought was dead skin from her face. To her horror, skin peeled off easily and she rushed to a mirror. She let out a horror movie worthy scream as her face was revealed to be covered in tiny golden scales.
Her mother and father paid for expensive tests, ran genetics throughout their family line, and gave her topical and topical medication. None of it seemed to work. After being at home for what seemed ages, Melita was allowed to return to school - not before she covered her face with a lot of make-up to hide what she considered her "freakiness." It wasn't long until her secret was found out and she was ostracized from her once tight group of friends.
Teased on a daily basis for her physical appearance, the once happy go-lucky Melita grew distant and cold. On her sixteenth birthday, a boy she had a crush on approached her and asked her to the junior prom. He reassured her that he did not find her unattractive and constantly praised her for her other qualities. Excited for a day of normalcy, Melita dressed in the nines and bade her parents farewell as she waited at a bus stop for her date. Hours pass and her date never arrived. She waited until the dance nearly ended before arriving, having walked on foot. Melita was shocked to see that her date had brought her former best friend to the dance and upon confronting him, learned that he had lost a bet and had to ask her to the dance. Melita began feeling the heat of her former friends and love interest mocking her for her naivety. It was at that moment that she felt her heart race, her finger tips burn with a tingling sensation, and witnessed her skin flickering with bright orange. As her former friend mocked her dress, she exploded into a fiery form, catching most of the decoration and auditorium on fire. Unable to control herself, Melita turned to her brother, who had arrived moments later to check on his sister. He attempted to put Melita out but was consumed in fire as well. Shrieking for help, Melita stood by as her brother fell to the ground and was burned nearly to death. Eventually, the principal took a fire extinguisher to Melita and her brother.
She watched her brother be carried off on a stretcher while she stood naked in the school parking lot. Students were hovered together, looking at her with total fear. It was then did Melita realize that it was better to be feared than to be loved. Those who loved her suffered the fate of her mutation and those who didn't.... well... they would soon get what they deserved.
Melita left home two days later, after learning that her brother would survive but had lost most of his skin and be paralyzed for the rest of his life. Despite her parents' pleas to remain with her, Melita knew that those who were close to her were in danger. She packed her clothes and left. Melita spent the better part of 6 years learning how to control her powers and developing her own identity. She embraced who she was and lavished in the fear she caused others - feeling, finally, that she was some one.
Melita can always be seen chewing on ice or drinking water.Sample RP:
Glowing embers tickled her skin when it should have burnt it. The smell of sweet flame should have been the smell of charred skin. But for Melita, this was normal. Her normal. She could see clearly past the haze of violent orange flames, licking upward toward the sky. She could see the fear in those who cried, cowered away from her, and prayed to God almighty. This too was normal for her and this made her upset. When she got upset, she got dangerous.
"Get out," she growled under her breath, sounding alien to herself. People fled like the world was ending, and it may have been if they stayed any longer. Melita wouldn't be sorry, that was for sure. She held her head high as she walked the floors of a high security bank. It wasn't her firs robbery, nor would it be her last. At twenty-two years of age, Melita had roasted her way into half a dozen banks and walked away with a hefty sum of cash. Today was no different.
She held out her hand as a security guard stood in between her and the metal vault. He was trying to be galiant, a hero. "S-Stop where you are, mutant freak!" He shouted, although it sounded more like a whisper. Melita lifted a brow, hidden by the brigh orange blaze surrounding her. "Excuse me?" she questioned, taking another step toward him. "Y-You h-heard me!" He said again, this time his voice coming through his obvious fear. Melita smirked and he held out his rent-a-cop gun and fired. The sound rang through the bank, but there was no thud for it. A large column of flame shot out from Melita, causing several benches from her to explode into a fiery storm. The bullet in question melted and fell to a puddle on the ground, sinking slightly as it broke the tile around it.
"I'm only going to stay this once," she said, calmly, "Get out of my way....before I turn you into crispy bacon." Mr. Rent-a-cop's face contorted in shock, his eyes glued to the ground where his bullet was. Melita guessed he wanted to take back the freak comment and run, but his legs were glued to he ground. "Oh..." was all he managed to make out, his feet carrying him as fast as he could to the door. By now the flames had claimed much of the bank but without so much as a breath, they flickered down and disappeared. Melita turned her sights on the vault and wondered what pretty things she'd find.
