Family:
Christopher Summers (Father, deceased), Katherine Anne Summers (Mother, deceased), Alex Summers (Brother)General Appearance:
Scott is just over six feet tall, and while he has a somewhat athletic build, it is more lean than muscular. He has short, neat, brown hair. He has brown eyes, though due to his power manifesting they always appear red. He tends to dress very neatly on and off duty, choosing khakis or trousers over things like jeans. He has no tattoos or piercings, and would generally look rather ordinary, if not for the bright red lenses of his shades that he must wear at all times. These glasses are a must, due to his powers. When he is in the field, he wears a black visor with a single slit through which his blasts can emanate.Personality:
Socially, Scott is personable, but lacks the confidence to reach out to people. That has made him somewhat closed off, and sometimes gets mistaken for arrogance. When in uniform Scott is confident, self-assured, and the less time he has to think about something the better, as it prevents self doubt from creeping in. Scott is the textbook field leader: Strong, driven, and with a deep sense of responsibility when it comes to the people under him.Abilities:
He would generally be considered by those around him as a boyscout, a straight arrow who never takes chances in life, and is always too willing to play it safe. That is only half true. His obsessive restraint exists because of how much he fears losing control of his powers, even for an instant, because he knows how devastating any slip by him could potentially be. Because of this he shies away from most social interaction, from doing the things most men like him are doing at this point in their lives. He is generally seen as being rather cold to those around him, to the point of arrogance, even when he does not intend it. On the plus side, he's a born leader, and a tactical genius, capable of coming up with unique solutions to battlefield dilemmas faster than most people can blink.
Cyclops' primary power is the ability to absorb various sources of ambient energy (primarily sunlight). This energy is then used to open dimensional apertures in his eyes, which unleashes a form of energy that is unlike anything on Earth. It is pure, concussive force, with no heat nor radiation as a by-product. Because of the nature of said power, it has never been tested to its limits, but tests so far have shown Cyclops capable of punching through tank armour or solid concrete with little effort.History:
Scott Summers was the first son of Christopher and Katherine-Anne Summers, and spent much of his early years in Alaska with his parents and eventually a younger brother, named Alexander.Other:
Cyclops shared his father's love of aircraft, but such a thing was not meant to last. When Scott was barely ten years old, he, his parents and his brother went on a family vacation. On the way way back, the plane encountered trouble, and Scott and Alex were made to take the last parachute by their parents, and leaped to safety. Unfortunately their parents were killed when the plane crashed, and Scott was injured when he and Alex hit the ground.
Scott, now in a coma, was hospitalised, while Alex was placed in to foster care.
When Scott eventually awoke from his coma, he was sent to live in an orphanage, run by a man named Michael Milbury. What Scott didn't know that Milbury was a mutant himself, and knew about Scott's potential as a mutant.
So began several years of emotional abuse that was designed to break the young Scott Summers. Amazingly, Scott held out, and eventually managed to escape the orphanage. He drifted around, on the run from Milbury, and when his uncontrollable powers finally emerged, Scott was unfortunate enough to be in a very public place at the time.
Destroying the support of an automated crane, Scott was forced to then make up for his mistake and destroy the crane so that it would not crush the gathered public.
Naturally fearful of his strange abilities, the crowd chased Scott away, and the young man (now sixteen) was forced to go on the run yet again. Fearful of his powers coming out again, Scott lived for over a year completely blind, and as such gained an understanding of how to live as a blind person.
That was until he came across a man known as Charles Xavier. Scott became his first student, getting a proper education and studying everything from philosophy to military tactics. He also learned, more importantly, how to control his mutant powers to the extent that he could measure the height, width, and intensity of his blasts.
With Professor Xavier's help, Scott discovered that when he and Alex were initially pushed from the plane, their chute caught on fire. Scott's powers manifested early, and he actually used them to slow the descent of the two boys toward the ground. He also discovered the reason he couldn't control his powers: The impact of the fall had caused brain damage, hindering his ability to disable his powers. It also caused painful headaches.
After extensive research, Xavier discovered that a rare crystalline material known as "Ruby Quartz" could actually absorb and redirect his powers. It also had the added effect of keeping his headaches manageable. With so many benefits from the material, Xavier had special pairs of sunglasses created, with the lenses constructed of this ruby quartz material. This allowed Cyclops to function as a more "normal" member of society, even going out in public without having to worry about scaring people.
Now in his late twenties, Scott is leader of the X-Men, and Xavier's trusted right arm.
Proficient in several martial arts, primarily judo and aikido. Because of his early days on the streets, Scott has a keen sense of hearing and smell, and while it isn't in any way superhuman, it allows Scott to function without the use of his eyes reasonably well. An uncanny understanding of geometry allows him to be incredibly accurate with his blasts. An accomplished pilot, able to fly pretty much anything with wings. Qualified mechanic, able to repair and maintain most of the X-Men's vehicles, including aircraft.Sample RP:
Scott stood silently, arms crossed as he watched a large video screen that wouldn't have looked out of place in Minority Report. The only hint that he was actually awake was the subtle movements of his brow-line, eyebrows rising and falling as he took in new information.
"Scott?"
The X-Man turned on his heels, seeing Professor Xavier enter the room. He'd recognised the voice (naturally), and his shoulders relaxed a little around one of the few people who truly knew him.
"Professor? Couldn't sleep either?"
Xavier shook his head.
"You'd be surprised how hard it is to sleep when you can't turn off your own telepathy." The Professor replied, a warmth in his smile that told his surrogate son to be at ease.
"Sorry Professor, I've just been-"
"Yes, I know. It is worrying to see such a... Strong outcry against mutants."
"I wish I could say I was surprised, but..."
Scott didn't finish his sentence, knowing that Xavier, even without telepathy, knew the answer.
"Patience, Scott. Our time will come, and humans will accept us. It's just a matter of patience."
"You use the "P" word a lot." Scott said, his lip curling in to a slight smirk, finally hinting that there was a sense of humour under that stony exterior.
"That's because I have to keep reminding you." The Professor replied, sharing the joke as both men watched the screen.
